This cookbook is not like most, it is written by an aircraft engineer with no formal training in cooking. Whilst some of the dishes will be familiar to you, many will not. Wherever possible I have sought to bring something unusual to these pages. Two versions are available, halal and non-halal.
In 1872, Phileas Fogg wagered twenty-thousand Pounds Sterling that he could circumnavigate the world in just eighty days. I wagered my reputation to Weekender in Bahrain, I could do the same in eighty dishes – the series was a success, my reputation remained intact. Of course, Phileas Fogg was a fictitious character created by the French author, Jules Verne but our journey is real. Inspired by Verne’s book, Around the World in Eighty Days, I searched for stunning starters, mighty main courses and delightful desserts from all over the globe.
Maybe you think some of these dishes will be beyond your abilities, I think not. I prepared, cooked and photographed every dish in this book. There are no glossy, unattainable results here. So, if you can follow instructions, you are capable of making every one of these recipes and you too can go on a culinary journey, Around the World in Eighty Dishes.
